I recently looked at the image below and thought how many people must have seen this? The power of this simple image can change your life forever.

This image is powerful, and can easily change the way we think. Except that change may last a couple of minutes, maybe, if you are lucky a day. So the question remains how do we implement this schedule into our lives? When will I be able to see a difference? Here is my answer.

Not only did I recently see this picture, but I also read a book called “MAKE YOUR BED,” by William H. McRaven. He was a retired Navy SEAL, and he talks about simple acts that will, “change your life and maybe the world.” The very first thing that he mentions in his book is how every morning, he and his fellow companions were expected to make their bed. Not only that, but it had to be perfect, with no folds, or unnecessary lines. Perfect. That was all.

So why am I mentioning this? Well, this Navy SEAL later learned that this task was not performed just for the sake of it. Rather because the best thing to do in the morning is to complete your first task. How do you expect that any other task will be completed in the day, without even this simple task being done? One task will lead to the next, and the next, all the way till you can say you had a productive day.

Another reason why this task was so important to him was that at the end of every day, he would see that something went right. Especially if that day was rather unfavorable. This could help busy people. It demonstrates “discipline, and attention to small detail.”

Why did I say all of this? Well, the biggest secret to being on the green side, the successful side, the side that we eagerly want to be on, is to start by making your bed. It is one of the most powerful tasks of the day. “If you want to change the world start by making your bed.”

Now you know how to accomplish the tasks for that day. So what are the tasks? I can’t tell you the specific tasks for you to complete that day. However, I can tell you somethings to make sure you do and don’t do every day.

If you go back and look at the image which shows, “Successful people vs. Unsuccessful people.” You will notice that all the things that are listed we are consciously aware of. But like normal people, we ignore this.

Try to take some time to read every day. Compliment as many people as you can, the same you would love for you. Do not fear change, it is a part of life. Forgive, life goes on. Do not talk about people. Never limit yourself from learning. Take ownership of your mistakes. Always show gratitude. Set goals, keep working harder, and make your bed in the morning.

Here is the video version of the speech given by William H. McRaven, on “MAKE YOUR BED.” Taken from the YouTube channel “Texas Exes.”

Remember to change the world, you have to start by making your bed.
